Asia Hamilton
Photographic Artist
Photography is not just Asia Hamilton’s passion; she uses her lens to examine the world, to connect with people of diverse backgrounds and to highlight the people, projects and places she loves. “I see Detroit as my muse,” said Hamilton, who has a fine-art photography degree from Columbia College Chicago. Her ability to see what lies under the surface and find every subject’s core beauty began in high school, when Asia participated in “Focus on the Mission,” a photography project with Focus:Hope that allowed her to explore every part of the city. As a professional photographer, Hamilton has shot everyone from Lil’ Wayne to special projects for Ford Motor Co. to African American portraiture. She’s freelanced for the Detroit Free Press, Detroit News, Ambassador Mag, Hour Magazine and many more.
She is the owner and creator of Nozomi Live photography & design, the company behind the face and brand of local businesses such as Detroit Snob, LIV Resto lounge and Heroes’ Alliance. Her most current project, “Abstracts 313,” uses textures of Detroit’s abandon spaces to create photographs that resemble abstract paintings. Hamilton also is founder of Photo Sensei photography tours and workshops, a business that provides easy and fun ways of learning photography while touring some of the worlds most exciting places. Hamilton often finds her texture photographs on these photography tours. Photo Sensei classes take place in Detroit, Dallas, Chicago and now San Diego but her most popular and favorite classes are right here in Detroit. “People all over the world see such horrible things about Detroit,” Hamilton said. “I’ve discovered some of the most beautiful places that I haven’t found in other cities. Detroit inspire a lot of things. We inspire good music. We inspire a strong work ethic. Detroit sets the trends and inspire people. I’ve lived in a lot of places but there’s just no place like home.”
