George Azar
Flowers of Vietman
In 2016 he started Flowers of Vietnam as a weekend pop-up restaurant in a former Coney Island in predominantly Hispanic Southwest Detroit, the same neighborhood where he grew up. The fully established, permanent Flowers of Vietnam opened in 2017 and quickly gained national fame in GQ Magazine and Bon Appetit as one of the top new restaurants in America. Zagat also honored Azar on its National “30 Under 30 Rock Stars Redefining the Industry” list.
Before returning to Detroit Chef Azar honed his culinary skills at Chicago’s Alinea, Bouchon Bistro in Las Vegas, The Waldorf Astoria- New Orleans, Rene Redzepi’s Noma in Copenhagen, and Noma’s pop-up in Tulum.
